Baby Sleep Habits

By Pregnancy and Parent at 2010-03-08 04:49:51
Baby sleep coaching is a fairly new concept. A sleep coach is a professional who can aid you in teaching your baby the skills necessary to put themselves to sleep. A baby that is able to self soothe allows both the parents as well as other members of your household to have a more restful night’s sleep. When you utilize the support of a baby sleep coach, you are taking a huge step towards restoring a more peaceful environment for you and your family.

One of the most important things in getting you baby to sleep properly is for your baby to learn to sleep on his or her own. The reason it is so difficult for many parents - why parents of a newborn suffer from so many sleepless nights - is because your baby, at first, isn't used to sleeping on his own, and when he wakes up in the night he cries for his mother: being in the presence of his mother is only way he knows how to get to sleep. It is natural that this transition from sleeping with the mother, to sleeping on his own, will take some time for your baby.

Now that the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths are recommending babies are put to sleep with a soother, it’s likely more and more parents will introduce dummies as a precautionary measure. And as many of us know – some babies love to suck! So it won’t take our little monkeys long to become dependant on the dummy as a sleep prop.

If you are expecting your first baby, it is important to understand what his/her sleep patterns will be and how they are affected by day and night. As babies age, they need less sleep throughout the day. The times where a baby is alert usually only lasts for two or three hours, at one month of age they sleep for over fifteen hours. By the time they reach six months of age, they tend to sleep between twelve and fourteen hours a day.

Its true that babies who were sleeping on their backs have still passed away from SIDS, but looking at the numbers, researches saw that a significantly higher number of babies who were sleeping on their bellies died from SIDS. Just using this one major finding, experts recommended that babies always be laid down to sleep on their backs. And it worked. SIDS numbers were reduced, and parents started to breathe a little easier. What the research didn’t reveal was why it was more likely for a baby to pass away from SIDS when lying on their bellies rather than on their backs.

After ovulation: If there is no occurrence of pregnancy after ovulation period, uterine lining wall starts to break down and is discarded during menstrual period. Around 19 to 21 days, levels of progesterone become high and reach the peak level during the beginning of the phase. At the end of the phase, levels of progesterone start to decrease. You will find difficulty in sleeping due to the falling progesterone levels.
